The gloves are off between these two country music heavy hitters: Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton.
During Monday’s live stream of Garth Brooks’ Inside Studio G episode, the 7-time CMA Entertainer of the Year calls out fellow Okie, Blake Shelton, as his “second favorite female singer.” Brooks is referring to his new album FUN that lists a song with Shelton when he makes the comment.
“But also FUN has the duet with Blake Shelton. My second favorite female singer.” Brooks follows up the statement with a laugh and an, “I love you, Blake.”
The song “Dive Bar” is a collaboration between Brooks and Shelton. It’s a honky-tonk anthem that croons on about basking in the neon glow as one nurses a heartache. Brooks got the idea to add Shelton to the track after he’d seen Shelton perform at the 2019 ACM Awards.
These two country music icons have crossed paths more than once during the years. Brooks was Shelton’s guest advisor on The Voice during season 11. Shelton’s even admitted that Brooks is his role model and influenced him to get into country music. Shelton even sounded-off when Brooks said he was removing himself from the running for CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year.
