Labor Day is finally here. That means that millions of American workers are enjoying a well-earned day off. It doesn’t matter if they’re wetting their lines in the local waterways or kicking back on the couch. Today is all about relaxing and having a good time. After all, enjoying a long weekend looks different for everyone. However, it looks like George Strait has the right idea.
Earlier today, George Strait posted a photo of himself in his usual western garb. He’s also sporting a huge smile and holding up a glass of whiskey. It seems like the King of Country Music is suggesting that we close out our long weekend with two fingers of sweet amber-hued liquid relaxation. It’s a tough suggestion to ignore. The caption of the photo lets everyone know that Strait is “Here for a good time this Labor Day.” It looks like he’s having a blast in the snapshot.
George Strait Has the Perfect Song for Labor Day
If you know anything about Geroge Strait, you know that his discography stretches all the way back to the early 80s. As a result, he has covered just about every topic under the country music umbrella. However, the lead single and title track from his 2011 album Here for a Good Time would be the perfect way to kick off your Labor Day celebration.
Like many songs on Here for a Good Time, George Strait co-penned the tune with his son Bubba and songwriter Dean Dillon.
“Here for a Good Time,” is all about taking the time to really enjoy your life. After all, life is short and none of us are getting any younger. So, we might as well enjoy the days we have left. Right?
George Strait sets the tone for the song in the opening verse.
“Don’t think for a minute / That I’m gonna sit around and sing some old sad song. / I believe it’s half-full not a half-empty glass. / Every day I wake up knowing it could be my last.”
The rest of the song follows suit. George Strait sings about not waiting around and dreaming about doing something he enjoys. Instead, he says he goes out and does the things that make him happy. He does so even if he ends up being wrong in the end. It’s all worth the risk to know that you’ve lived your life to its fullest.
The chorus, however, is what makes this song perfect for your Labor Day celebration. In it, George Strait sings, “I ain’t here for a long time. / I’m here for a good time. / So bring on the sunshine, to hell with the red wine. / Pour me some moonshine.”
