George Strait, the king of country music is not riding away just yet. Fortunately, neither is the Red Headed Stranger.
George Strait will be headlining the Moody Center, Austin’s newest venue, in April as part of their grand opening ceremony. “Strait from Moody Center” presented by Bud Light also will see equally beloved Willie Nelson & Family and Randy Rogers Band.
Moody Center is one of Austin’s newest $338 million dollar venues opening April of 2022 at the University of Texas. The manager of Moody Center says, “While planning our grand opening celebration, we knew we had an obligation to the Lone Star State. George Strait, Willie Nelson and Randy are all Texas natives who have built legendary careers while having an unbelievable impact on the country music industry. It doesn’t get any bigger than this.”
Coming off of a cowboy high at Austin City Limits, Strait has sold over 84 million albums and counting. He’s earned the third-most certifications with 60 awards and 33 different Platinum awards – putting him right behind The Beatles. His latest album Honky Tonk Time Machine came out in 2019, featuring hit single “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”
Willie Nelson & Family is currently on the road with Outlaw Music Festival. Nelson has acquired over seven decades of musical expertise. Hailing from San Marcos, Texas, Randy Rogers Band have sold out shows across the country. Seven Billboard Hot Country Songs, seven studio albums, and two live albums are safely fastened under their belt.
Strait exclaims, “I’m so glad I’ll get to ‘sing one with Willie’ and I can’t think of a better place to do it than Austin Texas. Willie is an incredible musician so I know this will be a great night together along with our friends from Randy Rogers Band.”
Strait and Nelson Only Shared the Stage Once Before
This Texas-sized production will see Strait and Nelson sharing the stage for only the second time in their careers. It’s hard to grasp that these two legendary country artists have only shared the stage once before. January 12th, 2019 Nelson and Strait officially performed a song during the Willie: Life & Songs of An American Outlaw show in Nashville.
Even bigger and better, Nelson will be celebrating his 89th birthday the night of the show.
Every party is bigger in Texas.
