George Strait Looks Back on ‘Something Special’ Album Released on This Day in 1985

As the “King of Country Music,” there isn’t much left in the music industry that George Strait hasn’t already done in his lengthy career.

George Strait is one of the best-selling music artists of all time in any musical genre. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find any artist in country music as successful as George Strait. He ranks right up there with the best in the country music business. Strait has put out hit song after hit song in his decades-long career and his already enormous fan base continues to grow.

A big reason for Strait’s continued popularity growth is his fondness for interacting with fans via social media. The “Check Yes or No” singer has seemingly mastered the art of engaging fans through social media. He often pops onto his Instagram count just for a quick hello or his Twitter account to give fans a glimpse inside his life. Now, at 69-years-old, Strait isn’t on the road as much as he used to be but he’s found a medium where he can always be found by his fans.

In his most recent social media post, George Strait commemorates the anniversary of one of the top albums. “Something Special” was made available to the general public in August 1985, making the hit album 36-years-old.

“This album anniversary is Something Special!” George Strait says in his Sunday Instagram post. He also includes a photo of the album cover which showcases a young George Strait peering directly into the camera.

George Strait Celebrates Album Anniversary with Fans

George Strait’s fans definitely agree as the social media post took in more than 10,000 “likes” in under an hour of going live. Several fans took to the comments section of the post to share their appreciation of the country singer. Many fans say that “Something Special” is one of their favorite George Strait albums.

“This is definitely a great album,” a fan writes. “Just like all the rest of your albums!”

“One my favorites!” another fan writes. “And such a handsome photo on the cover too! Looking good, George!”

The album “Something Special” was a big hit for George Strait, launching him even further into country music superstardom. It was the fifth album for Strait and it reached it was awarded platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album has 10 tracks for a total run time of nearly 33 minutes. “You’re Something Special To Me” and “The Chair” were the two most successful singles off the album. The latter climbed all the way to the top spot on the Hot Country Singles chart and is considered one of Strait’s biggest hits. The album also reached top billing on the U.S. Top Country Albums Chart shortly after its release.
