According to an article by the San Antonio Report, George Strait’s friend Stuart Cavender was only 63 years old at the time of his death last Tuesday. While he became famous in Central Texas for his appearances with The King of Country in commercials, he was a member of a family of popular car dealership owners.

The article said that Cavender’s grandfather began his Oldsmobile dealership in San Antonio in 1939. The dealership was successful and led to other successful car dealerships owned by his family. In 1997, Cavender took charge of Cavender Chevrolet in Boerne, Texas.

The relationship between George Strait and Stuart Cavender started after Cavender offered two trucks as rewards for Strait’s cattle roping event at Rose Palace. Cavender later hired Strait to be his spokesman. Over the years, they were in many commercials together. Cavender also sponsored concerts by the singer, according to the article.

At his funeral, Cavender was remembered for his friendliness and kindness. “He never met a stranger,” Rev. Elizabeth Knowlton said. Rev. Knowlton was the pastor of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Cavender attended the church throughout his life, according to the article.

Cavender’s brother, Bobby Cavender, said during the funeral that Stuart Cavender and George Cavender “got to be good friends,” the article also reported.
