George Strait Posts Throwback Video Singing ‘All My Exes Live in Texas’ With Alan Jackson, Eric Church and More

George Strait is taking to Instagram to reminisce about live tours before the pandemic hit.

The country music singer posted a video to the social media site from his epic The Cowboy Rides Away tour in 2013. The tour ran through 45 arenas and stadiums in 31 states over the course of 17 months.

Sold-Out Strait Tour Dates

Each tour date sold out within minutes at most of the venues it hit, The Boot reports. The tour culminated in a final concert at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The concert featured stars such as Kenny Chesney, Ronnie Dunn, Vince Gill, Faith Hill and Miranda Lambert.

That was supposed to be Strait’s farewell to touring live. But he went on to play concerts in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

“I knew it would be kind of emotional but I was still a little surprised to feel it that strongly,” Strait told People magazine around the time of that final tour date. “The first three or four shows in 2013 were the toughest, but every night it was in the back of my mind to take it all in, because I probably wouldn’t ever come back there again. It made me want to put on the best show we’ve ever done there. I hope we did that. I feel like we did.”

An Extraordinary Lineup

In the video Strait posted to Instagram, he tagged Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Vince Gill, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Trace Adkins and Faith Hill – quite the star-studded country lineup. All of them appeared onstage with Strait to sing “All My Exes Live in Texas,” a 1987 single from Strait’s album “Ocean Front Property” that was nominated for a Grammy Award.

As People reported, Aldean made a point at the time of honoring Strait’s influence on the country music scene.

“George Strait has been a big influence on me and everybody else in Nashville, and every country artist that has ever sung into a microphone,” he said.
