George Strait Reminisces on Live Performances with Concert Picture from One Year Ago Today

by Katie Maloney

George Strait is all of us as he remembers pre-pandemic concerts.

Remember concerts? Remember lighter swaying, crowd surfing, spilled beer and singing along to your favorite songs? If you answered with a disheartened, “vaguely,” we feel you. Apparently, so does George Strait. The country legend recently shared a throwback photo to his show from this time last year when none of us had any ideas that we’d be banned from music venues indefinitely.

Along with the photo, Strait wrote, “One year ago today, George played his last weekend of #StraitToVegas shows of 2020 at @tmobilearena! We can’t wait to see you all again when shows resume!”

We can’t wait either, George!

George Strait Is Still Finding Ways To Connect With Fans

Despite not being able to tour, Strait is still coming up with ways to interact with audiences. Most recently, he hosted a contest on TikTok called the “Amarillo By Morning TikTok Challenge.” Fans could record a video on TikTok using the “Amarillo By Morning” sound. The fans then shared their videos, tagged and followed Strait on TikTok. The submissions window for the contest closed yesterday but a winner won’t be announced until later this month.

Strait also connected with fans, and advocated for their safety, during a public service announcement. The announcement promoted COVID-19 safety protocols. During the 38-second video, Strait plays with lyrics from “Write This Down” to promote the safety measures.

“We all know that being Texan means being friendly. And as we open Texas back up, it’s important that we stay extra friendly by thinking about all our fellow Texans,” says Strait. “So, go on, write this down,” he sings. “Take a little note to remind you of these friendly things you can do to help defeat COVID-19.”

Strait then lists the procedures that civilians can take to stay safe. “Wash your hands regularly, wear a face mask, and stay six feet apart when in public,” Strait says.

Strait concludes the video by saying, “Let’s show the world what it means to be Texan by staying safe and staying friendly.”

Thanks, George, for finding ways to stay connected even if we can’t see you in concert.
