George Strait Shouts Out ‘Cowboys Like Us’ in New Photo

George Strait is feeling nostalgic with a throwback photo that references his song “Cowboys Like Us.”

Strait released the song as the second single to his 22nd studio album “Honkytonkville,” which released in 2003. The tune topped the Billboard charts at No. 2. In the song, Strait unpackages several Old West motifs in an ode to the modern-day cowboy and living freely. On Instagram, Strait referenced several of these lyrics.

He wrote, “Cowboys like us sure do have fun, Racing the wind, chasing the sun.”

George Strait Performs With Eric Church

The song obviously holds a special place in Strait’s heart. Although he had a number of songs to choose from, he included the song as part of his star-studded farewell tour. Strait invited Eric Church, this year’s CMA Entertainer of the Year, to sing the song with him in 2014. The two entertained audiences at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“There’s a commonality in our career paths,” Church told The Boot. “We were doing it our own way at a time when everybody was doing it a different way. I don’t have any more respect for anybody else than I do for George Strait. I respect him more than anyone. It’s been great to get to know him and become friends with him and have somebody you can talk to about certain things.”

His farewell tour The Cowboy Rides Away celebrated Strait’s legacy as a musician. Over his career, he’s won multiple awards such as 23 CMA Awards and the National Medal of the Arts. He has currently produced 30 albums with a string of 60 No.1 hits over the years.

Though he promised to retire from music, Strait just couldn’t stay away. He still performs infrequently at live concerts and his most recent album “God and Country Music” came out in 2019.
