George Strait Wishes Fellow Texans a Happy Texas Independence Day in Latest Post

Country music superstar George Strait is sharing some love for the great state of Texas on it Independence Day.

Texas Independence Day is celebrated each year on March 2. The day commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836, and marks the state’s independence from Mexico. Sam Houston Day is also observe on March 2. It marks the birthday of the man who led the Texans to victory over Mexican troops at the battle of San Jacinto.

A true Texan himself, Strait took to social media on Tuesday to celebrate with his fellow Texas natives. Standing in front of a Texas flag with his signature black hat on he wishes everyone a happy Texas Independence Day.

“Happy Texas Independence Day to all you Texans out there!” he says in the post’s caption. He adds a cowboy emoji to the end of the post. Popular on Instagram, Strait’s Tuesday afternoon post took in over 9,000 “likes” within an hour of going live. Several social media users returned the favor, wishing the country star a happy Texas Independence Day as well.

George Strait Holds Numerous Country Music Records

Strait is one of the most successful recording artists of any genre having sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, that number makes him the 12th all-time best-selling artist in the United States. His other RIAA certifications include 13 multi-platinum, 33 platinum and 38 gold albums. His best-selling album “Pure Country” came out in 1992 and was certified six times platinum, meaning it sold six million copies. It is a big reason why Strait is called the “King of Country Music.”

Strait holds the record for most number-one albums and singles and multiplatinum albums in country music history. In 2006, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He performed his hit single “Give it Away” before accepting his Hall of Fame bid.
