Happy Birthday Chris Stapleton!
Country star Chris Stapleton turns 43 today. And he certainly has a lot to celebrate. Since his breakout debut album in 2015, Stapleton has soared to fame. His soulful voice and heart-piercing lyrics have entranced listeners around the world. So, in honor of his birthday, we’re highlighting a few of our favorite Chris Stapleton moments.
When He Released His Debut Album, Traveller
Before he was the country music icon we know today, Chris Stapleton worked as a songwriter. He wrote songs for artists including Adele, Alison Krauss, Thomas Rhett, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, and Josh Turner just to name a few. He also led the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers and the rock and roll band The Jompson Brothers. But it wasn’t until he released her first solo album in 2015, Traveller, that his career really took off. The album includes hit songs, “Tennessee Whiskey,” “Fire Away,” “Parachute, “Nobody to Blame,” and “Traveller.” The album peaked in the number one spot on the charts.
When Chris Stapleton Swept the 2015 CMAs
After releasing Traveller in 2015, Chris Stapleton went from playing crowds of a few hundred to headlining shows for thousands. Not only did he win three awards at the CMAs but he also stole the show with his performances with Justin Timberlake. The two performed Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and Timberlake’s “Drink You Away,” and people went nuts. The audience got up from their seats to dance and sing, and viewers at home marveled at Stapleton’s sound. Arguably, that moment helped skyrocket Stapleton to fame. After the performance, Traveller went to number one on the charts and he received four Grammy nominations, including album of the year.
When He Promoted Mental Health Awareness In His Music Video
Chris Stapleton advocated for mental health awareness with his music video for “Fire Away.” He came up with the idea for the video that follows the life and love of a couple. The love between the two is palpable. However, the wife struggles with her mental health. The video very realistically depicts the struggles that the couple faces together and separately. Tim Mattia directed the powerful video and it stars actors Ben Foster and Margarita Levieva. The video also calls attention to the culture of mental health in this country, specifically through The Campaign to Change Direction. The organization strives to help people understand emotional suffering by condensing mental health struggles into five signs. The five signs include: change in personality, agitation, withdrawal, decline in personal care, and hopelessness. The music video clearly depicts the five signs.
When Chris Stapleton Was Hilarious on Jimmy Kimmel Live
It’s no secret that Chris Stapleton can make you feel all the feels with his songs. And sometimes, he can even make you laugh. During this hilarious skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chris Stapleton sings songs about all the words people love to hate including “panties,” “delish,” “ladyfriend,” and “moist.” Chris advertises the songs as a part of a new (fake) album called “Chringworthy.”
