Country music and gospel artist Josh Turner celebrates his 43rd birthday today. Here is everything you need to know about the South Carolina native.
Josh Turner Career in Country Music
In 2003, Turner signed with MCA Nashville Records, where he debuted his album later the same year. His second album in 2006, “Your Man,” is where he got his first two number one hits, being “Your Man” and “Would You Go With Me.” In addition, “Why Don’t We Just Dance” accounted for his biggest hit, which stayed at number one for four weeks. According to Billboard’s Year-End, “Time is Love” was named one of the biggest country songs of 2012. Turner also boasts five gold and platinum albums.
Mount Rushmore of Country Music
The country singer is an even bigger fan of some iconic stars. Turner created his own version of Mount Rushmore with five faces instead of four because there are so many icons to choose from! He just couldn’t narrow it down. The “Mount Rushmore of Country Music” includes the faces of Randy Travis, John Anderson, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, and Hank Williams.
“I’ve always said that any song you hear coming from my voice, you’re going to hear bits and pieces of those five guys. They taught me how to be Josh Turner.”
A stranger fact about Turner is that he enjoys sad songs, saying it struck a different chord within him.
“When I was growing up before I moved to Nashville, I was crazy about sad songs. There has always been a part of my heart that has loved those sad, lonesome, and slow songs.”
While Turner was a student at Belmont University in Nashville, he found an open gate on Johnny Cash’s property. The college student thought it would be a good idea to prance on through the gate and knock on the legendary singer’s door to give a casual hello as if they were old friends.
“The doorknob wiggles, the door swings open, and there stands Johnny Cash. He and I both jump back because he didn’t expect to see me, and I sure didn’t expect him to answer the door.”
I bet Cash would never have thought this kid would put his face on Mount Rushmore one day.
In addition, the blue-eyed, butter-voiced heartthrob is off the market and married Jennifer Ford in 2003. The couple has three children together.
