As a country music star Blake Shelton gets the opportunity to help folks. Troy Aikman was able to convince Shelton to join up with a project he was working on. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback didn’t have to do anything crazy, and it ended up being rather simple.

In Aikman’s hometown of Henryetta, Oklahoma, the former NFL star is putting on an event. It will take place on June 11. The event is a music festival, and that’s where Blake Shelton comes in of course. There are going to be a bunch of local acts, booths, and it sounds like quite an event.

This is the pitch that Aikman gave to the country star.

“I said, ‘Hey Blake, I’m going to host a music festival in my hometown Henryetta on June 11,” the commentator sent in a text.

“‘It’ll be first-class in every way … I wanted to see if we can talk with your folks about you headlining it. We want an Oklahoma presence, and you’re my first choice. I know these asks can be a pain in the ass, and I don’t want it to be for you, so if you want me to put me in contact with your manager that’s cool, too. Appreciate you.'”

Straight up, honest, and to the point. Aikman reached out to Blake Shelton and asked him straight up. Shelton is an Oklahoma native from Ada and the pairing is just too good not to do.

What Blake Shelton Said to Troy Aikman About Charity

With such an honest and upfront message, Blake Shelton couldn’t help but oblige. He has a lot of things going on in his life with music, tours, The Voice, and various side activities. Headlining this country music festival is a great gesture for Shelton to make.

“He responded almost immediately,” Aikman said of Shelton. “‘Hey there, boss. Good to hear from you. That’s a great idea. I’ve been kicking around doing one myself somewhere around Texhoma the last three years, but I’ve been too lazy to put it together… I’m glad that you’re doing something here in Oklahoma.’ … Blake gave me his manager’s number, so we were off and running.”

There are months before the festival starts. June is about eight months away and there is a lot going on between now and then. The lineup is going to be built up more and there should be a lot of great acts. Shelton taking the time to play this show amid all that he has going on is awesome. It seems that Aikman and the country singer are on the same page as far as doing a charity event in their home state is concerned. There will be lots of people excited to attend.
