Jake Owen Joins “Elf on the Shelf” Trend
On Wednesday, the singer tweeted, “Jake with a Steak on a Cake on a Drake on a lake.” Alongside that, he tweeted a picture of himself with his foot in a chocolate cake holding a steak perched on the shoulder of Canadian rapper Drake with a lake in the background.
Owen is taking part in a viral phenomenon based on the “Elf on the Shelf” meme. In it, celebrities are posting pictures of themselves with another celebrity according to a rhyme with their name.
The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition in which families hide an elf in different spots around the house. But it has now grown to include memes on social media.
The meme usually goes according to the formula, “You’ve heard of elf on the shelf, but have you heard of…” After the meme gained steam online, celebrities got in on the action.
Celebrity Elizabeth Banks posted a Hanks on Banks image of Forrest Gump perched on her shoulder. And actress Idina Menzel posted a Denzel on Menzel image.
Country Music Stars Post Pictures
The trend has migrated to country music stardom. Reba McEntire, Billy Ray Cyrus, Brad Paisley and other country legends have posted their own takes on “Elf on the Shelf.” And now Jake Owen has joined their ranks.
It’s been an eventful year for Owen. He recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Erica Hartlein. The two met in a Restoration Hardware, where Hartlein was working at the time and Owen was buying a couch. The couple have a baby daughter, Paris.
Owen posted a photo of the three of them together on Instagram after Hartlein said yes. He also posted a photo of his dirt-stained jeans from getting down on one knee to propose.
