My grandpa once told me, “Son, don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.” That advice has proven itself to be true time and time again. Information can be wrong, even when it comes from a good source. Jamey Johnson recently stepped up to say that some information about his upcoming album is just plain false.

Earlier this month we reported that “Cowboy” Eddie Long, who plays steel guitar for Jamey Johnson dropped some great news. Apparently, they had been in the studio working on a new album. Long said the new album was going to be one of the best that Johnson ever put out. At the same time, it had the big, bearded singer’s fingerprints all over it. To top it all off, we were going to get covers of tunes from both Charlie Daniels and Billy Joe Shaver. It sounded almost too good to be true. Turns out, it was.

Jamey Johnson Dispels Rumors, Eddie Long Apologizes

Jamey Johnson talked to Rolling Stone recently. During that interview, he addressed Long’s comments. To put it bluntly, there is no new album on the way.

“My steel player, he did an interview recently and he told them all this wonderful stuff that we’d gone in and recorded. And they turned around and printed that there’s a new album.” Jamey Johnson told the publication, adding, “which is news to me.”

Jamey Johnson did step into the studio with his band, though. So, Eddie Long wasn’t selling us all a bill of goods. However, Johnson said they were just seeing how some things sounded. About cutting a new album, Johnson said that he would like to put out new music. However, he doesn’t want to rush anything.

Johnson told Rolling Stone that he’s not going to put out an album until he has a collection of songs that he wants to go out and play every night. At this point, he says, he doesn’t need to put out an album. “I wouldn’t waste everybody’s time and attention to come hear the newest bucket of crap,” Jamey Johnson said, summing up his feeling about putting out a sub-par album.

As for Long, he made an apology for misleading fans and press outlets alike. According to Saving Country Music, Long said that he was excited about being in the studio again. His excitement led him to speak out of turn about what was going on behind the scenes. He went on to say that he would never speak on it again. He concluded by saying, “Jamey has a PR who promotes his career. I’m so sorry for misleading everyone … Beverly Keel [Johnson’s publicist], I am so sorry for the grief and turmoil my mouth has caused you.”
