John Carter Cash is channeling his late father after he dropped an epic black and white photo of himself rocking a beard. On Friday, the 51-year-old Nashville native uploaded the pic to his Instagram account, showing off his new look. “This is likely my last photo with the beard this season. It won’t be long, it’s is coming off,” he captioned.
The original man in black, Johnny Cash, would have celebrated his 89th birthday on February 26. According to his son, he has a trove of unreleased music. During an interview, Cash revealed that his father recorded a vast amount of music that’s yet to be released. “There is more music, but I feel like that story’s been told,” he said.
John Carter Cash continued, adding that his father’s instantly recognizable voice was unlike any other. “What’s amazing is you hear the frailty in his voice. You hear the sadness in his tone, you hear the loss that he struggled through. But if you listen more carefully you’ll hear the undeniable strength and beauty that is underneath it all, that is supporting him and carrying him on.”
Johnny Cash’s Son Hints At Unreleased Music From Father
With attention to the unreleased music, he told The Guardian that “there are a few things that are in the works right now – probably four or five albums if we wanted to release everything. There may be three or four albums worth of American Recordings stuff, but some of it may never see the light of day.”
In November, Cash also helped produce his father’s posthumous album, Johnny Cash and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The record features 12 of Cash’s original vocals and master recordings combined with new, orchestral stylings.
The new versions of “I Walk The Line” and “Flesh and Blood” are also unreleased recordings from the 1970 film, I Walk The Line.
