Justin Moore Scores 10th Chart-Topping Single With ‘We Didn’t Have Much’

Justin Moore’s single “We Didn’t Have Much” just landed him a whole lot. The singer just scored the 10th chart-topping tune of his career.

Since it dropped last October, Moore’s track has been steadily moving up the charts. In July and early August, it settled at No. 7. But the song only had a short climb to go before reaching the peak. “We Didn’t Have Much” is currently at the top of both Billboard Country Airplay and also Mediabase/Country Aircheck charts.

For the Moore faithful, this comes as little surprise. Moore’s latest features all the hallmarks of some of his most endearing tunes like “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” or “Bait a Hook.” Written by Randy Montana, Jeremy Stover, and Paul DiGiovanni, “We Didn’t Have Much” is a bonafide classic in the making. More than a few people agree.

But Moore has never been one to gloat his own success. In an exclusive interview with Outsider, Moore downplays his country music star status. He says he’s just a fan of country music whether he’s playing on stage or cheering in the crowd. That humble nature made Moore the perfect candidate to lend his vocals to a song like “We Didn’t Have Much.”

“Probably the most common remark or comment to me is man, you seem normal,” Moore tells Outsider. “Well hell, I am normal. I just have a cool job. My reply in addition to that is I would still be at a lot of these shows regardless of my position. I would be the one out there looking at the guy on stage if I wasn’t the guy on stage looking at the crowd.”

Justin Moore On ‘We Didn’t Have Much’

“We Didn’t Have Much” is a song that Justin Moore might have listened to growing up in the ’80s and ’90s. As a teen, Justin cut his teeth listening to the likes of George Strait, Alan Jackson, and the great Dwight Yoakam. When he heard the track for the first time, it reminded him of his childhood.

“I learned throughout my career, if it’s personal to me, it’s probably personal to a lot of people out there. I think that’s been a big part of our success over the years,” Moore says. “Their music kind of described the way I was growing up. That’s something I’ve done subconsciously throughout my career. I thought they were writing and recording songs about me and my buddies. I feel like subconsciously we’ve kind of done that throughout our career.”

Moore’s new No. 1 single is an anthem about family and those little moments that rear their head when you’re looking back. Not everyone may have eaten chicken on Sundays or watched NASCAR races. But everyone has a few memories they wished they could get back.

Like any great magician, Moore weaves together a song that sounds deeply personal but relatable to millions. With over 3 billion streams on Pandora and sold-out shows, he more than pulls it off. But more than anything, Moore’s love for country music is a note that carries through.
