Saturday, iconic country music star Kacey Musgraves celebrated turning 33.

The “Golden Hour” singer seemed to have a good day surrounded by those closest to her. One of which was her new rumored boyfriend, Cole Schafer. He shared a collection of black-and-white photos of the duo posing together on Instagram to celebrate her birthday.

The photos feature Musgraves planting a kiss on his cheek, the two laying comfortably in bed together, and even one with Musgraves by herself donning an absolutely iconic leopard print jumper.

He wrote a sweet message to the singer alongside the photos. Schafer said, “Here’s to you looking to your right when you stepped into F*** … to you writing me back. Here’s to your jawline that chaps my lips and your hair I can’t keep my hands out of. Here’s to your aesthetic and your art being a close second to your heart … to you making it through thirty-two and here’s to you making history in thirty-three. It’s been so damn pretty falling for you, Kacey.”

Cole Schafer and Kacey Musgraves were first rumored to be seeing each other when they were spotted walking together in New York in June. Schafer is a writer for an advertising company and also publishes poetry.

Kacey Musgraves’ Birthday Gift to Fans

While Schafer’s sweet message was a gift to the country singer, Kacey Musgraves provided her fans with a gift on her own birthday.

She posted a series of 15 different Instagram posts. Together, the images made up a cloud-filled sky that is moving into a darkened night. The first post also includes 20-second instrumental audio before she eventually sings “Let me set the scene.”

She then proceeds to share 14 different phrases that are presumed to be lyrics on her upcoming album on the other posts. Given the lyrics she provided, they seem to be referencing her divorce from Ruston Kelly in July 2020.

“Two lovers ripped right at the seams … i signed the papers yesterday … you came and took your things away.”

It’s not quite the sweet, feel-good sensation blooming on her “Golden Hour” album. Instead, this look into her future music shows a hauntingly beautiful and personal musical expression. There’s no official word on when the singer is releasing a new album, but the Instagram stunt got her fans excited for more.

Kacey Musgraves met Ruston at the country music venue the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville in 2018. The two had a working relationship as well. One of their collaborations was to recreate a Johnny Cash poem “To June This Morning” into a song.

She spoke positively of their relationship during a Rolling Stone profile article.

“It’s nothing more than that. It’s two people who love each other so much, but for so many reasons, it just didn’t work. I mean, seasons change. Our season changed. Part of me questions marriage as a whole, in general. I mean, I was open to it when it came into my life. I embraced it … just have to tell myself I was brave to follow through on those feelings,” Musgraves said.
