As a Kid Kane Brown Couldn’t Afford Basketball Shoes so He Wore Water Shoes to Practice

Kane Brown has come a long way since 2015 when he released his first EP Closer, and the single, “Used to Love You Sober” in 2015. In just six years, Brown has released two studio albums, three extended plays, fourteen singles, and twenty-three music videos. Additionally, he’s won five American Music Awards, two CMT Music Awards, and was nominated for six Academy of Country Music Awards. In conclusion, Kane Brown has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. During an interview, Brown opened up about how far he’s come from his childhood financial struggles.

“One of my favorite kid stories is playing basketball but not being able to afford basketball shoes,” said Brown. “I had these water shoes that I thought made me super fast. But my Nana got upset one day because she couldn’t buy me the new basketball shoes that everybody else had. And I said, ‘Nana, it’s okay, these shoes make me faster than anybody.’ So, it was just looking at the positive.”

Brown also shared the advice that he’d give his younger self.

“I would just tell myself, always look out for people,” said Brown. “And always look out for the ones who look out for you.”

And it seems that Brown is doing exactly that for his work with Lowe’s. As part of Lowe’s 100th anniversary as a business, they announced the launch of their newest project, 100 Hometowns. For the project, they are investing $10 million into 100 community projects all across the country. Lowe’s also invited several celebrities to team up with them for the projects, including Kane Brown. Brown worked on a project with the Chattanooga Boys and Girls Club. It was a beautiful full-circle moment for Brown. Not only did he grow up in Chattanooga but he also worked for Lowe’s for a time before hitting it big as a country music artist.
