Kane Brown to Perform at Halftime of Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Game

by Chris Haney

On Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys announced that country star Kane Brown would be this year’s Thanksgiving Day halftime performance as they take on the Washington Football Team on Nov. 26.

The Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game is an NFL tradition dating back to 1966. Dallas has hosted the holiday game every single year since, except for two years in the ’70s. The NFL franchise pairs the event with the Salvation Army to raise money for their annual Red Kettle Campaign.

The annual fundraiser provides money towards shelter and food for the homeless and hungry. Additionally, the campaign provides Christmas toys for kids and other social service programs to millions of people in need. The Red Kettle Campaign is the biggest and longest-running fundraiser in America. In 2019, the campaign raised $126 million and supported services for more than 23 million people.

Brown Announces Halftime Performance on Twitter

Brown made the initial announcement when speaking with host James Corden of The Late Late Show on Tuesday night. The singer talked about the tie-in to the Salvation Army campaign, and how he relates his own family’s hardships to the good cause.

“There were times growing up when my family did not have enough to eat or a roof over our head. And today, there are so many people in need. 2020 has been a hard year, but every small act of generosity helps,” Brown said of the campaign.

In addition, Brown and the Cowboys both shared the big news on their official Twitter accounts on Wednesday. The Dallas organization’s account posted a video of Brown with the caption “@kanebrown has a message for #CowboysNation!”

“What’s up Cowboys Nation,” Brown says in the video. “I can’t wait to see you guys on Thanksgiving Day as we kickoff the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.”

Also, the country star retweeted another Cowboys post and added that he “can’t wait” to play the halftime show at AT&T Stadium.

2020 has been good to Brown. The musician is performing at drive-in theater concerts nationwide, was nominated as “Favorite Male Country Artist” at the American Music Awards, and had multiple award nominations along with co-hosting the CMT Music Awards.
