Kelsea Ballerini on Playing Grand Ole Opry This Weekend: ‘Felt Such a Gift’

by Matthew Wilson

Kelsea Ballerini gets an early Christmas present in the form of music. The country musician felt at home performing in the Circle at the Grand Ole Opry.

On Dec. 19, Ballerini joined both Lauren Alaina and Lady A for a very special Christmas concert at the establishment. After the show, Ballerini shared on social media how thrilled she was to perform. She posted a picture of herself backstage at the Opry.

In an Instagram story, she wrote, “Playing music is my favorite thing in the world. And it felt like such a gift to be able to safely tonight. Thank you as always for having me home.”

Kelsea Ballerini Is the Youngest Opry Member

When she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2015, Ballerini became the organization’s youngest member. Little Big Town surprised the singer by offering her membership during one of her performances at the Opry. Carrie Underwood inducted Ballerini during the 2015 ceremony.

“This is probably where I should say something very eloquent,” Ballerini said during the ceremony. “We can all agree that life moves pretty fast, right? I think especially since I moved to Nashville, I had this big dream to do all of these kinds of things. I’ve rarely looked up.”

Ballerini had also made her debut at the Opry earlier that year in February.

“There’s rarely been a moment that’s made me just stop and take a minute and be grateful and look up. One that I remember is February 14, 2015 and that is when I made my Opry debut. And one is right now,” Ballerini said. “I just want to say that it’s so nice and comforting to know that no matter where life takes me and no matter if the radio stops playing me tomorrow and whatever happens, that I can always come here and I can always play country music.”

Carrie Underwood herself knows a bit about the surprise and joy of joining the Opry. Randy Travis himself asked her to join in 2008.
