The “Hole in the Bottle” singer showed off her vocals when she posted the clip to her Tik Tok account

The Fairytale Magic Behind Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘Peter Pan’

Co-written by Ballerini, “Peter Pan” was released as the third single from her premiere studio album The First Time in 2015.

Alongside Ballerini, Forest Glen Whitehead, and Jesse Lee also co-penned the tune.

The country-pop track serves as a ballad in which the narrator describes their lost lover similar to the song’s namesake, Peter Pan.

The song serves as a metaphor for staying in a child-like state of immaturity full of fantasy.

Peaking at No. 1 on both the “Billboard Hot Country Songs” and “Country Airplay chart,”it” became Ballerini’s first song to hit the top of the Billboard chart.

It served as her third consecutive hit on the airplay chart— making Ballerini the first female country music artist to top both country music charts simultaneously.

Since Wynonna Judd , it made her the first female country artist to have their three singles hit number one.

The song’s fairy tale nature became a subsequent theme for the song’s commercial success. It charted at No. 35 on the “Hot 100,” giving Ballerini her only “Top 40” hit as of now.

Ballerini kept receiving success for the song when it was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Currently, the song has sold 672,000 copies nationwide as of March 2017. Internationally, it was also well-received: in Canada, it peaked at No.4 on the “Canada Country” chart and No. 75 on the “Canadian Hot 100.”

Ballerini also paired the song with a music video directed by Kristin Barlowe. In the video, Ballerini watches in horror as her boyfriend performs dangerous stunts in the desert, signifying his Peter Pan-Esque lifestyle.

In 2017, The Academy of County Music and the CMT Music Awards nominated it for “Video of the Year.”
