Kelsea Ballerini is firing back after facing social media criticisms over her outfit of choice at the 2020 CMT Awards. The “Dibs” singer’s response has Twitter lighting up.
The day after the show, the 27-year-old country singer took to social media to respond to the backlash.
“After reading way too many comments, I’d like to remind people that there are different kinds of country music and none are more ‘real’ than others when it comes from an honest place, that women can wear whatever we want and shouldn’t be called names and criticized for it, and that if you don’t have something nice to say, politely shut up,” she wrote.
Twitter Reacts to Kelsea Ballerini
Kelsea Ballerini was met with hundreds of responses from fans and critics alike. Shortly after posting the tweet, a number of fans rushed to her defense.
“Seriously all the negativity is getting old,” one user writes. “Every area I have interests in I see posts asking fans to stop bullying. Its (sic) not hard. If you don’t have anything nice to say shut up and keep scrolling. Keep doing you girl I love your music and BLAST it on my way to work often.”
“Thank you for being you and showing that there are many sides to what it means to be ‘country,'” another user said. “Too many people are looking to tear someone down and I’m glad we have you out here being a great role model.”
One person on Twitter also questioned if Ballerini was also making reference to the backlash that Noah Cyrus faced for her controversial bodysuit. “If your (sic) referring to Noah Cyrus, women should be able to wear what they want, but I wouldn’t wear a bikini to a black tie event,” the user writes.

You’re much nicer than I am because I wouldn’t be so polite. You looked incredible and sounded even better. Ignore these people who don’t realize that country music can be a spectrum and not just one specific sound.
