Even country superstars long to know “How Forever Feels,” with the right person.

Released in 1999, Kenny Chesney’s song, “How Forever Feels,” soared to the number one spot on U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Additionally, the song peaked at number 27 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

A classic 90s hit, the song is about a man who has lived life to the fullest but quickly realizes that there’s still one thing missing from his life – someone to spend forever with. The single is featured on Chesney’s album,  Everywhere We Go. The album also includes the number one hit, “You Had Me From Hello.”

Twenty years after releasing the song, Chesney still features “How Forever Feels,” during his live sets. Chesney told Billboard that he was drawn to the song because “it’s the only love song I know of that has both Jimmy Buffett and Richard Petty in it.”

Kenny Chesney Almost Didn’t Record “How Forever Feels”

However, Chesney almost didn’t record the song. In fact, country music star, Tim McGraw, recorded the song first. But, when McGraw decided not to release his version, Chesney picked up the song. Despite the fact that McGraw missed out on the number one hit, he says there are no hard feelings between the performers.

“I’m glad you cut it. It just didn’t work for me,” McGraw said during an interview with Billboard in 1999.

Chesney Fell In Love With The Beach

Chesney and his team filmed the music video for “How Forever Feels” on a beach in St. Thomas VI. This would become the first of his Caribbean beach-inspired videos.

A few of his subsequent beach party anthems include, “When The Sun Goes Down,” “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems,” “Old Blue Chair,” and “Guitars and Tiki Bars.”

Chesney even released a beach-themed Christmas album, All I Want for Christmas Is a Real Good Tan. I guess you could say that Chesney found everlasting love with the beach.
