Kenny Chesney Pens Touching Tribute to Mac Davis After Legendary Songwriter’s Death

Country singer Kenny Chesney penned a beautiful tribute to Mac Davis after the legendary songwriter’s passing.

Chesney took to Twitter to share his grief and how he felt about Davis, who passed away on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 78 years old.

“Goodbye to my great friend Mac Davis,” Chesney wrote. He included a photo of Davis as well as his thoughts on losing his friend and collaborator.

“I met Mac as a young artist just starting out on my journey, when he was already a legend and a songwriting hero to me,” Chesney adds. “He welcomed me into his home and turned that tremendous creative light on me.”

Davis passed from a critical illness that came after he had heart surgery. His manager, Jim Morey, confirmed his death via Facebook on Tuesday. He is best known for writing Elvis Presley’s iconic songs “In the Ghetto” as well as “A Little Less Conversation.” However, Davis had a fruitful career of his own as both a singer and actor, including ‘The Mac Davis Show‘ on-air for three seasons.

Chesney is the latest country singer to pay tribute to Davis. Singer Travis Tritt also offered some kind words about Davis, tweeting that the loss was “heartbreaking.”

Mac Davis seems to have truly been loved by all who knew him. The country music industry looks to be reeling from this loss and will be for some time to come.
