“Gwen Stefani is on cloud nine,” People says of the 51-year-old pop star. “Ever since getting engaged to Blake Shelton, the No Doubt rocker has been “floating on air,” an industry source tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story.”
Moreover a People ‘insider’ claims “Gwen was amazed and absolutely not aware the proposal was happening. It was a shining point in her life,” they continue.
Stefani almost derailed the proposal completely, however. Within PEOPLE’s cover story, The Voice host recounts how she almost forced Blake Shelton to come up with an entirely different plan.
“I was trying to get out of going because it was getting too complicated with COVID and the family,” Stefani says. “I’m like, ‘I think we should just cancel.'”
Cancelling would’ve prevented the couple from traveling out of their new hometown of Los Angeles to Shelton’s Tishomingo, Oklahoma ranch where they spent much of 2020’s quarantine together. Thankfully for them both, Shelton, 44, was able to convince her they could make it work.
“I walked in and my son was sitting right by this fireplace, and Blake was basically getting down on his knees to do a fire, and he goes, ‘Hey, can you look in that cabinet over there and get me a fire starter?'” Stefani recounts. “So, I opened the cabinet, and there was a ring in a box,” she reveals. “I was like, ‘Ah! What?! Are you serious?!’ Then everybody came running around because they heard us screaming. It was a pretty magical moment.”
Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani “Looking Ahead” to Wedding
Moreover, PEOPLE‘s source adds that the couple is “looking ahead” to wed in 2021.
“They want a small wedding,” their source tells of the lovebirds, “but it seems impossible to do even that right now. They were talking about early 2021, but they have decided to wait until they can have a small group of family and friends attend.” This is, of course, due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
“Gwen is still emotional about the engagement and can’t believe how lucky she is to be with Blake,” the magazine reports through the same source. “She didn’t think the engagement would change her and Blake’s relationship because it felt like they were already married, but it has sparked even more happiness.” What more can a couple ask for?
Apparently, Gwen Stefani “can’t wait” to be the wife of Blake Shelton. “They aren’t rushing it now but do want to marry soon… The wedding has given her something amazing to look forward to in the new year,” PEOPLE’s source wraps up.
