Luke Bryan Announces He’s ‘Back’ Amid Missing 2021 ACM Awards, ‘American Idol’

by Evan Reier

After missing out on an episode of American Idol and his performance at the ACM Awards, Luke Bryan says he’s back.

In a post made Sunday evening to Instagram, the country star appeared in a video, smiling and updating his followers on what’s happened, and what’s next.

The post is captioned by Luke Bryan as:

“I’m BACK and I’ll see y’all shortly for American Idol! We’re live at 8/7c and voting starts at the top of the show. Tune in! #americanidol

Evidently, he recovered just in time from his positive COVID-19 test to appear on Sunday, April 18’s episode. In the video, he explains a bit more.

“Hey guys, it’s Luke and I’m back,” Luke Bryan starts. “And I’m feeling good and I’m so glad to be back at the judge’s table. We’re gonna be live from Hollywood, coast to coast.”

It’s certainly great news for both fans of Bryan’s music and American Idol. Unfortunately, he is still missing the ACM Awards and his scheduled performance.

Luke Bryan’s Previous Announcement of Positive Test

In a tweet posted made on April 12, Bryan announced his positive test and to say he would be missing American Idol.

“I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @AmericanIdol show.  I tested positive for COVID but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”

It’s a brutal beat for one of America’s favorite judges already, but then came the news that he wouldn’t be able to perform at the ACM Awards. Considering the ACM Awards were airing at the same time as American Idol, it was likely going to be a prerecorded performance.

The awards show first listed a lineup without Bryan, which was then confirmed by his agent, per Outsider’s Keeli Parkey.
