Luke Bryan spoke about his challenging time after testing positive with COVID-19.
On April 12, Bryan announced that he tested positive and had to miss an American Idol live show. Former judge Paula Abdul filled in for an episode. He was given the all-clear to judge the April 18 episode of the singing competition show. Although he was in Los Angeles, Luke Bryan accepted his ACM Entertainer of the Year award virtually.
After his big 2021 ACM Awards win, Bryan spoke with the media backstage to discuss his past year.
“I was very fortunate to not have a long a long set of symptoms and stuff,” Bryan revealed. He clarified that it was “still quite challenging” during a few days. Luckily, he didn’t have severe reactions and thanked God for that.
“There were times where Caroline [his wife] was nursing me back to health,” he said.
Over the past year and a half, Luke Bryan credited prayer for getting through COVID-19 and quarantine. He added, “Now looking back on the past year… the main thing that’s got us through is certainly your friends and your family. “

The world has completely changed and Luke Bryan hopes that it can get back to normal soon. He said that he has been”praying [that] everybody can see the other side of certainly this pandemic.”
He found that leaning on people on his team helped him get through the tough times. Bryan noted that he has been touring for over sixteen years and most of his crew have been there from the beginning. “It’s been an amazingly challenging year for the entertainment business…and certainly for the fans.”
At the end of the day, Luke Bryan was able to spend time at home with his loved ones. “I could spend quality time with my family has certainly gotten me through all of the challenges of this year,” he said.
Luke Bryan said that for entertainers, part of their “core” is being on stage every night on the road. “It’s a big part of my happiness as a human being too,” he admitted. “I’m not gonna sit here and say I haven’t had ups and downs and bouts of kind of depression stuff.”
Looking back, his big win was just icing on the cake, and wanted to thank his family, crew, and fans for getting him through the rough times.
