When you woke up this morning, did you know that you needed a Luke Combs bluegrass album in your life? Me neither. However, after hearing his latest release, there is a hole in my life that can only be filled by Luke Combs recording some down-home mountain music.
The track, “The Great Divide” dropped earlier today and features Billy Stings on guitar. Between Luke Combs’ killer vocals and Billy’s expert flatpicking, this song is bound to be a favorite of fans of both musicians.
Luke Combs co-wrote the song with Billy Strings and Wyatt Durrette in June of 2020. In an Instagram post, Combs says that the song is not meant to be political. Nor is it his intention to tell anyone how to feel or what to believe. Instead, he says, the song captures how he felt at the time that they wrote it.
Combs addresses this in the video attached to the post saying, “When we wrote it there were a lot of crazy things going on in the world. There are still a lot of crazy things going on in the world. I just felt like I had some stuff to say. It’s not meant to be political, It’s not meant to tell you how to think, or to tell you how to believe. That’s not my job. It’s just a guy kind of saying the way he was feeling when he wrote it.”
According to Luke Combs, they recorded the song on a whim a few weeks ago. As for the reason for releasing it today, he said that it just felt like the right time for people to hear the song. It is not, however, a lead single from his next release.
Luke Combs Has a Bluegrass Album on the Back Burner
The post does come with some bad news for those of us who now need a Luke Combs bluegrass album. His upcoming bluegrass project has been placed on the back burner. On the bright side, it is something that will happen in the future. The good news for Luke Combs fans is that he has put the bluegrass project on hold to work on his next full-length country album.
However, Luke Combs points out that he has done considerable work on the bluegrass project. In the video, he says, “Something that I have always wanted to do is write and put out a bluegrass album. So, I wrote a bunch of bluegrass songs in June of this past year. I had plans to write a bunch more. As COVID continued to get worse around the holidays I wasn’t able to have a lot of those in-person writes that I wanted to do with the people that I wanted to do them with because of the state of the world.”
So, Luke Combs fans can look forward to new music in the future. Hopefully sooner rather than later, we will all get to hear the bluegrass project that he has been working on. If this guest appearance by Billy Strings is any indication, it will be a monster of an album.
