If you’re a fan of George Strait’s “Run” – and you should be, because it’s perhaps his greatest song ever (biased opinion) then you need to hear this version of the song performed with none other than Miranda Lambert. The country music icon recently invited Lambert on stage during a performance in Las Vegas recently.
Further, ahead of the performance, Lambert exclaimed as she walked on stage, “That’s the King right there!” The two ensued in a musical snack that will absolutely delight your ears. Don’t believe us? Listen for yourself below.
This isn’t the first time the legendary singer paired up with Lambert. The two also shared the stage during Strait’s final tour in 2014 during his performance at AT&T Stadium to a massive audience. Strait played to more than 100,000 fans at the time – an iconic performance.
Though it was written by Anthony Smith and Tony Lane, George Strait’s take on “Run” is one that has captivated audiences since it hit the charts in 2001. It peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs in December of 2001.
Critics of the recording said it was “haunting” and that Strait added a superior melodic performance of the song.
George Strait Almost Turned Down Number One Hit
While George Straight’s career is marked with 60 number ones over his amazing career, there’s one song he almost didn’t record.
“Obviously, I was wrong, because it went to No. 1. I just didn’t think it was strong,” the legend said.
The song in question? “Living and Living Well” was the 2002 hit that went all the way to the top of the charts. The melodic tune is an easy, beachy tune with a fun melody that many fans resonated with.
However, Strait doesn’t dwell on his fame. He’s a family man through and through – even celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary to wife Norma Strait today. Further, the singer hasn’t given many interviews about his personal life. But he did have this to say of his marriage to his wife:
“Norma and I are so blessed that we found each other … and were able to do all of this together, experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad. We do almost everything together … We love each other and we still like each other. A lot!”
The two got married on December 4, 1971, and had two children together. Norma has been by his side throughout both his military and country music career. While they’ve known each other most of their lives, the two feel lucky they pursued a relationship when they did. Both hailing from a small Texas town south of San Antonio, Strait and his wife continue to represent the state while keeping their private family life intact.
