One of Texas’ best-kept secrets—the desert town of Marfa—got a shout-out from one of its most-famous native daughters. Miranda Lambert name-dropped Marfa via tweet on March 3. Miranda noted that the Lone Star State locale is where she goes every time she needs an “escape.”
Not only did Miranda Lambert co-pen her ACM Award-winning single, “Tin Man,” in Marfa with frequent collaborators Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, but also the songwriting trio created the thirst-quenching “Tequila Does.” In addition, Miranda revealed the three cohorts have penned “13 more” tunes that will be shared soon.
The water—or tequila—in Marfa must be magical for the songwriting trio.
“Tin Man” earned Single and Song of the Year nominations at the 2017 CMA Awards. In addition, the tune was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards. The single finally earned some hardware at the 2018 ACM Awards, taking home Song of the Year honors.
While “Tequila Does” was never released as an official single, Miranda’s love letter to the spirited elixir did recently get the video treatment using footage from her 2019 Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour.
With a population of less than 2,000, Marfa has become a West Texas pilgrimage destination renowned for its art, culture, and food. For instance, the hard-to-reach destination is roughly three hours by car from El Paso.
Miranda Lambert Continues ACM Awards Reign
In addition, Miranda Lambert recently netted five nominations at the upcoming ACM Awards. Miranda has earned 34 ACM Awards (most all-time), 14 CMA Awards, and two Grammy Awards.
Her new single, “Settling Down,” is currently No. 23 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
The 56th ACM Awards will broadcast from Nashville on April 18 at 7 p.m. CT on CBS. This year’s festivities will take place at three iconic Nashville destinations: The Grand Ole Opry House, Bluebird Cafe, and Ryman Auditorium.
