On Thursday night, country singer Morgan Wallen shared a short promotional clip for his upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Wallen joined actor and SNL guest host Jason Bateman and SNL cast member Heidi Gardner in the video he posted to Twitter. Gardner asks the pair what they want for Christmas. Bateman says being part of the upcoming SNL episode is the only Christmas gift he needs. Likewise, Wallen agrees. However, Gardner jokes that the pair don’t care about world peace. Therefore, Bateman and Wallen add world hunger and no more COVID-19 to their Christmas gift list.
Additionally, in a separate preview segment Gardner jokingly mistakes Bateman for being the superhero Batman because of his last name. Bateman tries to correct her saying there’s an “E” in his last name, but it doesn’t stop Gardner from freaking out that SNL booked Batman. Wallen tells Bateman to “go ahead and get outta here and save the city or something” before Bateman jokes that’s going to get his cape.
The new episode with Wallen as the musical guest will air live on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 11:30 p.m. ET.
Wallen Gets a Second Chance as SNL Musical Guest
Wallen was originally invited to be a musical guest on the sketch comedy show in October. But, SNL canceled the musician’s appearance as the musical guest after he broke COVID-19 protocol. Pictures and videos captured the singer partying without a mask at the University of Alabama not long before his scheduled performance. The singer took the news pretty hard and apologized to his fans.
“I’m not positive for COVID, but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and they’ve obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” Wallen explained. “I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy.”
Wallen took ownership of his choices and said he understood why the show canceled his appearance. He apologized to SNL, his fans, and his team who he says he let down.
“And I take ownership for this,” Wallen said. “I’d like to apologize to SNL. To my fans. To my team. For bringing me these opportunities, and I let them down.”
After the cancellation, the country artist took a break from social media and the public spotlight to reflect on his life’s choices.
“I took a while, like almost two weeks, and just turned my phone off and didn’t even look at it,” Wallen told Bobby Bones. “[I] drove on the tractor, things like that, and just [was clearing] my head.”
