Morgan Wallen at #1 Spot on Billboard’s Artist 100 Chart for Second Week in a Row

Country artist Morgan Wallen is celebrating his second consecutive week sitting comfortably on the top spot of Billboard’s Artist 100 chart.

The Artist 100 chart measures “activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.”

Morgan Wallen and ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’

The “Wasted On You” singer has had the top spot since last week. This was when his newest 2021 album, “Dangerous: The Double Album” was released.

He is the first country artist since Luke Bryan to have the top project for two consecutive weeks. Bryan’s album, “Kill the Lights” from 2015 had a lot of success on the charts.

The new album also had 265,000 units last week when it made its popular debut.

Besides the Billboard Artist 100 chart, he also has several songs sitting on the Billboard Hot 100. That includes “Wasted On You” at No. 24 and “7 Summers” at No. 25. They were originally his first two Hot 100 top 10s when they first came out in August.

Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Luke Combs, Florida Georgia Line, and Thomas Rhett are other primarily country artists who have been at the top of this list for more than one week. However, Taylor Swift has the most total weeks at the top with a massive 45-week record.

Wallen on Parenting and Music

Besides balancing on the top of the Billboard charts, Morgan Wallen also balances his successful songwriting career with his new role as a dad.

He is co-parenting his seven-month-old daughter, Indigo Wilder, with his former girlfriend KT Smith.

Although this is not the way he hoped to start a family, Wallen is thankful for his baby boy.

“I wanted to have a family like my parents. My parents are still together, you know. They raised [me and my sisters] together. That was my idea for what my life would look like. Obviously, that’s not the way it turned out. And I struggled with that a little bit when I first found out,” Wallen told CMT.

Wallen has said that he is “thankful” he can share parenting tasks with someone he still cares about and is friends with.

He said he has had to reevaluate some of his choices knowing that one day they may impact his son. For example, Wallen has made some questionable choices during the current COVID-19 pandemic. He had a protocol violation which led to his October appearance on SNL being canceled. He then was in videos online of being maskless at the University of Alabama.

When live performances start up again, his ability to co-parent will see more strain. However, his parents will help care for the baby. In addition, he said he may have to get a nanny at some point.

“[I’ve] honestly have been a little scared. But it’s the coolest damn feeling, and I’m ready for whatever God has planned for me and my little guy,” Wallen said.
