Morgan Wallen Breaks Major Luke Combs Apple Music Record

by Matthew Wilson

While he may have had his ups and downs, Morgan Wallen is aimed to end 2020 on a high note. Wallen just broke a country music record, unseating Luke Combs as the king of Apple Music.

According to Rolling Stone, Wallen now holds the record for the most pre-added country album in Apple Music history. On the service, listeners can pre-add or play one song off an upcoming album. When the album releases, Apple adds it to the listener’s library. The music service uses pre-adding as a way to gauge how popular an artist’s album might be.

Last November, Combs made Apple Music History when his album “What You See Is What You Get” became the most pre-added country album on the service. Now, Wallen’s upcoming album “Dangerous” has taken that title. Despite this, Wallen still has a way to go before he matches Combs’ popularity. The country artist has had a string of highly successful albums.

Morgan Wallen Also Makes Billboard History

In addition to breaking an Apple Music record, Wallen also made “Billboard Hot Country Songs” chart history. His upcoming album may be dangerous indeed. Two of the songs from the album debuted on the chart’s Top Ten list. That hasn’t happened in over 62 years.

Wallen also took home the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year at this year’s award ceremony. Wallen’s reversal of fortune comes after a year marked with several lows. Most recently, Wallen was kicked-off a guest appearance on “Saturday Night Live” after breaking COVID-19 protocols.

The country singer apologized to producers of the show and fans. He’ll get another chance to guest star on the show on Dec. 5.

Wallen’s upcoming album “Dangerous: The Double Album” will drop on Jan. 8, 2021. The artist has recently been sharing songs from the album with fans. But there’s still plenty left to see. The album will feature 30 songs by Wallen. Several country artists including Jason Isbell, Eric Church, and Shan McAnally have written songs on the album.
