On Sunday, Billboard announced that country star Morgan Wallen continued to break records and that his newest album has debuted at No. 1 on the charts.
Wallen released Dangerous: The Double Album last Friday on Jan. 8. A week later, and the country sensation’s second studio album has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart. In addition, it has earned the largest streaming week ever for a country album. Furthermore, Wallen’s mammoth 30-song album has the largest overall sales by unit of a country artist in more than two years. Dangerous racked up 265,000 album units earned in the U.S. during the last week since its release, according to Billboard’s report.
The rankings are measured in equivalent album units – a multi-metric system that includes physical and digital sales, and streaming service plays. The Billboard 200 chart is an accumulation of units that include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Additionally, the country musician’s 265,000 equivalent album units in the album’s first week include 184,000 SEA units. That equals more than 240 million streams of the songs from Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album. The album units also consisted of 74,000 album sales, of which 50,000 were digital download sales.
Morgan Wallen’s first album, 2018’s If I Know Me, peaked at No. 13 during its more than 110 weeks on the charts. For perspective, it earned 1.7 million equivalent album units, and the album’s songs have garnered 2.4 billion streams.
The Tennessee native has hit numerous milestones in the last couple of years. Wallen has 13 hits so far on the Hot Country Songs chart. Eight have made the chart’s Top 10 list, and two have reached No. 1. Now, Dangerous has continued Wallen’s ascent to the top of country music.
Morgan Wallen Making History with New Album’s Singles
Before Dangerous: The Double Album released, Morgan Wallen had already begun to break records with some of the album’s singles. In December, the country musician charted two Top 10 singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It became the first two singles to do so in 62 years.
“Somebody’s Problem” debuted at No. 3 on the chart and “Still Goin’ Down” debuted at No. 8. Both tracks are highlights of Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album that released this past Friday.
Out of the 30 new songs on his double album, Wallen personally wrote more than a dozen of the tracks. The new album also contains songs written by popular country artists including Eric Church, Jason Isbell, Hardy, Shane McAnally and more.
Back in May, Wallen released his hit “More Than My Hometown,” which is still sitting at No. 3 on the country charts as of this week. The single has spent 38 weeks on Billboard‘s country singles chart.
The success of each of the 3 singles earned Wallen an additional honor before Dangerous came out. Wallen also holds the record for the most pre-added country album in Apple Music history. Country star Luke Combs previously held the record.
