Morgan Wallen: Most Underrated Songs of the Rising Country Music Star

by Katie Maloney

Have you heard these underrated Morgan Wallen songs? If not, you need to.

As one of the most quickly rising new country music superstars, Wallen has released several number one hit songs. Songs include “Up Down,” “My Hometown,” and “Whiskey Glasses.” However, in celebration of the release of his latest album today, Dangerous, we’re compiling a list of a few of his most underrated songs. If you’re going to call yourself a true Wallen fan, you’re going to want to know these three songs.

“Quittin’ Time”

Every country music roundup needs a tragic love song. That is why we’re adding “Quittin’ Time” to this list. The song is about knowing when it’s time to continue to fight for someone you love and when it’s truly time to let them go. “There’s all day thinking time and all night drinking time. And time to sing or time to find if rhyme has a reason. Time to pack it in and stay down. Pack it up and walk away now. And give it one more day or call it a season. I can tell by the tears not in your eyes it’s quittin’ time.”

“Somebody’s Problem”

If we’re going to add a tragic love song, we have to balance the romance scales by also adding a hopeful love song. So, we’re adding “Somebody’s Problem.” The song is about Wallen seeing a woman who he knows he’s about to pursue and quickly fall in love with. “Somebody’s problem, somebody’s goodbye somebody’s last call number that they can’t find. Somebody’s best day, somebody’s worst night, somebody’s reason for leavin’ on the porch light…She’s somebody’s problem and somebody’s problem’s ‘bout to be mine.”

“Still Goin’ Down”

Next up we have “Still Goin’ Down.” We always appreciate a song about the simple things in life and that’s exactly what this song is about. The song is about average life in the country from sipping beer to Friday night bonfires. During the song, Wallen sings, “Cause I’m from a small town, southern drawl crowd. We’re sippin’ clear, drinkin’ beer on a Friday night…Still circle up big trucks around a fire. Still kickin’ up some dust behind the tires. Call it cliché, but hey, just take it from me. It’s still goin’ down out in the country.”

Morgan Wallen Drops His New Album Today

Over the summer Wallen took to Instagram to share a video of a song he and co-writer Ernest Keith Smith came up with that day. Between writing songs and going fishing with his cousin, Wallen shared the new song on Instagram. The song soon became the title track of his latest album. Along with the video, Wallen writes, “Dangerous. Me and @ernest accidentally wrote anothERN.”

The country star released his highly anticipated second album, Dangerous: The Double Album, this morning. What’s a double album, you ask? It’s a glorious 30-track album that Wallen organized while being stuck indoors during quarantine.

“The double album idea started off as just a joke between me and my manager because we had accumulated so many songs over the past couple of years,”  Wallen says. “Then quarantine hit, and we realized it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen. I also ended up writing quite a few more songs during the quarantine with some of my good buddies,” he says.

Wallen says that he wanted different sounds throughout the album to reflect the ever-changing stages of life.

“I also wanted the songs to speak to multiple phases of life and have multiple different sounds based on my influences and based on what I enjoy,” he added.
