On Friday, The Bobby Bones Show shared an interview with Morgan Wallen where the country star talked about his decision to release a double album.

The country singer just released Dangerous: The Double Album on Friday, Wallen’s newest, robust 30-song LP. His Target exclusive album has an additional two songs, bumping the album total to 32 songs. Early on in the interview, Bones asked Wallen why he chose to make such a large album.

Wallen says he and his manager joked around about releasing a double album early in 2020. The country artist said he had about twenty-plus songs worthy of recording already, more than enough for a full-length single album. He says instead of cutting out some songs and taking it down to 15 or so, the other option was to make more songs.

The musician didn’t think he’d have time to record more songs last year due to his tour schedule. However, the COVID-19 pandemic opened up plenty of free time for Wallen as all tours were put on an indefinite halt in 2020.

“Obviously the way last year turned out, I ended up having a lot of time. Right when quarantine started, I wrote like five or six songs immediately that we felt were worth recording. We decided to go up instead of trimming it down. You know, I feel like people really want music right now more than they have in a long time because they got more time to listen to it. It just seemed like it made sense,” Wallen explained of the decision to create a double album.

Morgan Wallen Making History with New Album’s Singles

In December, Morgan Wallen already made history with a few of the songs off his upcoming album. The country musician charted two Top Ten singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It became the first two singles to do so in 62 years.

The songs included “Somebody’s Problem,” which debuted at No. 3 on the chart, and “Still Goin’ Down,” which debuted at No. 8. Each of the tracks are featured on his Dangerous: The Double Album that released this past Friday.

Out of the 30 new songs on his double album, Wallen personally wrote more than a dozen of the tracks. In addition, the new album also contains songs written by popular country artists including Eric Church, Jason Isbell, Hardy, Shane McAnally and more.

Back in May, Wallen released his hit “More Than My Hometown,” which is still sitting at No. 3 on the country charts as of this week. The single has spent 37 weeks on Billboard‘s country singles chart.

The success of each of the 3 singles earned Wallen another honor before his album came out. Wallen also holds the record for the most pre-added country album in Apple Music history, beating out Luke Combs previous record.
