Morgan Wallen Ties Jason Aldean for Most Weeks Atop Artist 100 Chart

by Madison Miller

Morgan Wallen is on his way to breaking even more records with the release of his new album, “Dangerous: The Double Album.”

He just tied Jason Aldean for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart among country acts. Both have gone three consecutive weeks on the top of the chart. If he goes one more week at the No. 1 spot, he will pass up Aldean.

Jason Aldean’s album, “Old Boots, New Dirt” came out in 2014.

Wallen Artist 100 Chart

The goal of the Artist 100 is that it “measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity,” according to Billboard.

Morgan Wallen currently has 130,000 equivalent album units earned. During the album’s opening week, he had 19 songs on the Hot 100. This includes songs like “7 Summers,” “More Than My Hometown,” and “Wasted on You.”

The album also debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and U.S. Top Country Albums charts.

“The ‘double album’ idea started off as just a joke between me and my manager because we had accumulated so many songs over the past couple of years. Then quarantine hit, and we realized it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen. I also ended up writing quite a few more songs during the quarantine with some of my good buddies … I also wanted the songs to speak to multiple phases of life and have multiple different sounds based on my influences and based on what I enjoy,” Wallen told Billboard on the day of his album release.

So far, the album has gotten a lot of positive reviews from critics. Taylor Swift has the most weeks atop the chart out of everyone. She spent 45 weeks at the top.

Morgan Wallen Album Leaked

There was some controversy at the time of Wallen’s release.

Copies of his album had been prematurely displayed and sold ahead of the January 8th release date at Walmart. It happened at more than 10 locations.

According to Rolling Stone, he referred to the mistake as a “leak.”

He then encouraged his fans to shop at Target instead in an Instagram post.

“I don’t shop at Walmart anyway. I also gave Target two extra songs, so if you’re going to buy my album physically, go to Target, baby.” Those songs include “This Side of a Dust Cloud” and “Bandaid on a Bullet Hole.”

Target has a clouded vinyl pressing of the album, while Walmart has the three-LP blue-colored version of “Dangerous.”

“We are deeply apologetic to Morgan for this unfortunate situation. We appreciate Morgan as an artist and understand his frustration and disappointment … have protocols in place to help ensure new albums are not sold before the release date, yet in this instance, his album made its way to the shelf in a handful of stores early. We’re actively removing any albums remaining on the shelves in those stores to hold until the official release date, and taking additional precautionary measures for the future,” a Walmart spokesperson told Rolling Stone.

This is Morgan Wallen’s second album after his debut, “If I Know Me.” It was one of the most highly-anticipated albums of 2021. So far, sales and reception seem to suggest just how anticipated it was.

His song “Wasted on You” has over 22 million listeners on Spotify. Several of his songs are viral TikTok sounds as well. He released several of his “leaked” songs on the social media platform.
