It’s New Country Music Friday! We’re finally getting some music from artists whose new tunes we’ve been desperately yearning for.
We’re covering the heavy-hitters like Tim McGraw to the new guys like Morgan Wallen. It’s been several years since Chris Young released music and he’s bringing along some big names in the country music scene to his new album.
Without any further wait, let’s get right into the music that could very well be your soundtrack for the weekend.
Morgan Wallen’s New Country Singles from ‘Dangerous’
This new country crooner burst on the music scene in a big way with his throwback mullet hair and plaid cut-off shirts. But after taking a step back after the controversy surrounding his partying habits, Morgan Wallen’s got one thing on his mind, and it’s this new album.
The 27-year old’s record, Dangerous: The Double Album drops on January 8, 2021. The two-disk record features 15 songs on each disk, totaling 30 in all. Wallen says that it’s a collection of songs that he’s written over the years, and well quarantine made this jammed pack album possible. He’s even scored a collaboration with Chris Stapleton on the song “Only Thing That’s Gone”.
Wallen’s full album release might not happen until next year, but the Tennessee-native is releasing three songs today (Nov. 20). They are as follows: “Somebody’s Problem,” “Still Goin’ Down,” and a more personal song “Livin’ the Dream”.
“Somebody’s Problem” is actually co-written by Wallen alongside Rodney Clawson, Jacob Durrett, and Ernest Keith Smith. Listen now:
Wallen also joined fellow writers again to co-write on this song, “Still Goin’ Down”. Fellow writers, Michael Hardy and Ryan Vojtesak put pen to paper, as well.
Wallen says that “Livin’ The Dream” is his most personal song on the sophomore album. It’s co-written by Wallen, Ben Burgess, Jacob Durrett, and Michael Hardy.
Wallen is channeling much of his struggles with fame and fortune into his latest album, and especially in this song. He took to TikTok to talk about the song.
He says, [It’s] one of, if not the most personal song on my new record.” It’s a track that he never thought he’d release, but “here we are” Wallen states. “I know I’m super blessed and usually happy,” Wallen continues. “But not always. This came from the ‘not always’ part.”
Tim McGraw Greatest Country Hits, Duet with Midland
Tim McGraw shares some pretty awesome throwback posts on his Instagram from time to time, so perhaps that’s where he got his inspiration for this new album. Titled McGraw Machine Hits: 2013-2019 includes some of the country’s icon greatest tracks, plus a cover of “Redneck Girl” with the country group Midland.
The album consists of 11 McGraw originals, plus three new songs. One of these is “Redneck Girl”. The Bellamy Brother recorded the hit song first, and McGraw fell in love with the song with it first hit the airwaves and the club back in the 80s. The Bellamy Brothers even gave McGraw their blessing when they first found out about the remake.
In addition to the Midland collaboration, McGraw’s including a song he worked with Florida Georgia Line on. Plus “Drive” is a Ric Ocasek cover.
Chris Young Recruits ‘Famous Friend’ Kane Brown for Album
Chris Young promises a new album is in the future, but for now he’s giving us a little taste of what’s to come. Young’s new single “Famous Friends”, which drops today, is a collaboration with Kane Brown.
Young sings about his group of “famous friends” that range from police officers to high school quarterbacks and preachers. The chorus reads, “I’ve got some famous friends, you’ve probably never heard of, But back in Rutherford County, our crowd is second to none. You might not know them here in this big city we’re in, But when I go back home, I’ve got some famous friends”.
Time to Have ‘Fun’ with Garth Brooks’ New Album
The long-awaited Fun album from Garth Brooks is finally here. We’ve been getting single drops here and there, but now the country icon’s granted us access to the full-length album. Brooks wanted the album to sound like the country songs from the ’80s and ’90s.
This is his twelfth studio album and it features songs like “All Day Long,” “Stronger Than You,” as well as “Dive Bar” that features fellow country crooner Blake Shelton. It even features a duet with his wife, Trisha Yearwood. The cover the hit song “Shallow” from the movie “A Star is Born”.
Brooks says his favorite song on the album is “Sometimes You’ve Got to Die to Live Again.” He doesn’t like to compare it to “The Dance,” but he says there’s just something about this track.
Florida Georgia Line Collaborates with Russell Dickerson
Despite the breakup rumors that have been swirling around Florida Georgia Line lately, the two are teaming up with a fellow country singer. “It’s About Time” is a collaboration between Russel Dickerson and FGL. The song sounds like today’s country, a bit of twang, and a whole lot of pop mixed with some fast-talking-lyrics.
The message was shared on Twitter that the single is out today.
The boys share clips from the recording studio and this caption, “Cheers to good drinks, good times and the greatest of friends. Stoked our boy @russelled invited us to be a part of this one. #ItsAboutTime out now!! http://orcd.co/itsabouttime 🥃🤘🚀“
“It’s About Time” from Dickerson’s album Southern Symphony.
Miranda Lambert Gives us ‘Champion’
This song might not be on Mirdans Lambert’s records, but “Champion” oozes Lambert’s spirit. She announced the new single release on Twitter.
The song is from the soundtrack to her podcast, “Make It Up as We Go.” The show was created by Scarlett Burke, plus Burke also sings several songs from the series. Lindsay Ell and Tyler Rich also contribute their musical talents to the podcast.
“Champion” is the quintessential Lambert song. It tells the story of persevering through the hard times, navigating obstacles and making sacrifices. It’s during these times that we learn to become resilient and not give up on our dreams.
“So I do it all again, everything I had to lose to win, every time I think my world might end. It’s the fall before the climb. A broken heart is always my champion,” Lambert sings in the chorus.
That’s all for now! So crank up the radio and roll the windows down. New country music means it’s bound to be a good day.
