In a career full of accolades one of the most special for Alan Jackson came 11 years ago today (April 16). That honor was his very own star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Getting a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame was not on Jackson’s radar before it actually happened. Even after he received the honor, the popular singer said he still did not feel like he deserved it. That honor, he said, seemed more appropriate for movie stars.
“I never even thought about it, to be honest. Everybody, whatever you do, likes to be appreciated and acknowledged by the industry and fans, but this is a whole different category,” Jackson told The Los Angeles Times in 2010. “I can’t hardly put myself in the same line with some of them great old actors that I’ve loved over the years. I just don’t feel that I qualify.”
Alan Jackson obviously did qualify thanks to his wildly successful country music career and talent. At the time of the 2010 ceremony, Jackson had 17 Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum albums, according to the website of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Also, he had received more than 100 awards and sold more than 50 million albums as of 2010. Interestingly, out of his 34 No. 1 hits, he had written 26 of them.
Jackson Called Hollywood Walk of Fame Star a ‘Very Special Honor’
Alan Jackson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was the 2,405th star awarded by the organization. The star was unveiled in a ceremony on April 16, 2010. Leron Gubler led the day’s events. Gubler was the president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Being included on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was a “very special honor” for Alan Jackson.
“I didn’t know they put music people on there much, but now I’ve learned that they do,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “I think it’s a very special honor for a country singer like me, where I come from…. My family for years can come to Los Angeles and see that star and step right on it. That’s very cool.”
Alan Jackson Performed a Very Special Concert After Walk of Fame Ceremony
The celebration of Alan Jackson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame didn’t end with the star unveiling ceremony. Later that evening, the country superstar put on a special concert. This concert took place in a venue that was very different from those he was accustomed to playing.
That venue was the Hotel Cafe. And, what made the concert special was that this venue was very small and intimate. Instead of playing in front of thousands, Alan Jackson only performed in front of dozens.
Most of the lucky members of the audience that night were winners of radio contests. And, according to one member of the audience, the performance Alan Jackson gave that night made them all very lucky indeed.
“I’ve been to a lot of concerts in the last year, but that’s got to be the best show I’ve ever seen. He just connects so well,” concert attendee Cindi Gatewood said. You could almost say it was star-worthy.
