By 1995, Alan Jackson was well acquainted with the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. In fact, “I Don’t Even Know Your Name,” was his 11th number-one hit song. The song was the fifth single from his fifth studio album, “Who I Am.” The song spent 20 weeks on the chart and peaked in the number one spot. in fact, “I Don’t Even Your Your Name” bumped Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine” off its two-week run at the top of the charts.

“I Don’t Even Know Your Name,” is about a man who gets a little too drunk and ends up marrying a waitress he just met. During the song, Alan Jackson sings, “So I ordered straight Tequila, a little courage in a shot. And I asked you for a date, and then I asked to tie the knot. I got a little wasted, yeah I went a little far. I finally got to hug you, and you helped me to my car. The last thing I remember I heard myself say. I’m in love with you baby, and I don’t even know your name.”

What’s The Story Behind Alan Jackson’s ‘I Don’t Even Know Your Name’?

You know when you and your family start a joke and it just kind of grows from there? Soon, you’re poking fun at each other and writing songs about the time you fell in love with a waitress? Okay, maybe you’re family doesn’t write songs about your inside jokes. But you get what we’re saying. Well, Alan Jackson is, obviously, part of a musical family. So, “I Don’t Even Know Your Name” actually started as a family joke and then quickly turned into an entire song.

Jackson wrote the song with Ron Jackson and Andy Lofton. Jackson wrote the song as a jok for his family. And he never planned on recording it. However, while he was touring in 1993, he had a change of heart. Jackson recorded the song and the rest is country music history.

Alan Jackson’s music video for the song is also hilarious. The video features comedian Jeff Foxworthy. Foxworthy stars in the video as a man who gets very drunk at a restaurant and then marries a waitress who is missing her left front tooth.
