The Band Perry Reveals The Meaning Behind The Song

During an interview with The Boot, Kimberly Perry talks about what the song means to the band.

“‘If I Die Young’ is actually the first song that we had penned for [our debut] album,” said Perry. “We wanted to write a song about making the most of whatever time you’re given – whether it’s two years, 20 years, or 200.”

During the song, Perry sings, ” “If I die young, bury me in satin / Lay me down on a bed of roses / Sink me in the river at dawn / Send me away with the words of a love song.”

Undoubtedly, the band has found success. Perry said that her and the rest of The Band Perry are grateful for the full lives they’ve had at a young age.

“We really have gotten to live and love at our young ages. “If I Die Young,” for us, is about, if it all ends at this moment, look at what we’ve gotten to do. Whatever time we’re given will be absolutely enough, as long as we make the most of it,” she said.

The Song Inspires Fans To Live Life More Fully

The song was nominated for a Grammy Award and two ACM Awards. Additionally, “If I Die Young” won several CMA Awards in 2011. The tune won Single of the Year and Song of the Year. It has been certified six-times platinum.

Without a doubt, Perry said that the fans reaction to the song is what’s most rewarding for the the band.

“We’ve had people writing in and telling us about what this song means to them,” Perry said. “People are finding a lot of life through this song. That’s the spirit that we wrote it out of. That makes us so excited.”
