On This Day: Brothers Osborne Release Debut Album ‘Pawn Shop’ in 2016

Five years ago today, the Brothers Osborne took the country music scene by storm with their debut album, Pawn Shop.

The album received praise for combining modern and traditional country influences. Most impressively, both brothers, John and T.J. Osborne, co-wrote almost every song on the album. The album includes multiple hit singles including “Rum,” “21 Summer,” and “It Ain’t My Fault.” However, their most notable single from the album is, “Stay a Little Longer.”

The song is about trying to deny your feelings for someone but being unable to resist asking them to “stay a little longer.” During the song, the brothers sing, “I tell myself I’m not in love. But one more time is not enough. One last kiss and then you’re a goner. And I’m here wishing you could stay a little longer.” The song spent 44 weeks on the Hot Country Songs chart and peaked in the number four spot.

Brothers Osborne Overcame Salmonella To Release Their New Album

A few months ago, Brothers Osborne were back at it again after releasing their third studio album, Skeletons. However, the road to the record’s release was anything but smooth. During an interview, T.J. Osborne shared that duo had to navigate a devastating tornado is Nashville, a case of salmonella, and quarantine. All three of the events ended up delaying the record’s release. Nevertheless, Osborne says that the timing actually ended up working out perfectly.

“It worked out. I wish we could say that we planned it that way but unfortunately COVID planned it that way,” says Osborne.

Osborne says that the fans really influenced the brothers’ decision to release the album during the pandemic.

“I think right now people need more new fresh entertainment more than ever as people are hunkered down,” says Osborne. “We thought it was a good time to go ahead and put the record out now even though we weren’t going to be able to go and tour it, that was another downside,” he says.
