On This Day: George Strait Releases His First Chart-Topping Album ‘Right or Wrong’ in 1983

George Strait’s iconic country music career is one that has been filled with milestones, awards, and hit song after hit song. Today (Wednesday, Oct. 6), marks the anniversary of one of the earliest milestones of what became his legendary career.

Like he often does, the now 69-year-old Texas native marked the special occasion with a post on social media. So, what milestone is Strait celebrating today?

Well, that milestone is the release of his album, “Right or Wrong.” The album was released in 1983 and it became the first album of his career that made it all the way to the No. 1 spot in the charts.

“#RightOrWrong, we’re celebrating this album anniversary today!” George Strait posted on Instagram. Along with the caption, he shared its cover, which featured a very young-looking Strait smiling directly at the camera. You can check it out below.

Looking back, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that George Strait’s 1983 “Right or Wrong” album was such a success. According to the country music icon’s website, it was the third that he released in the early years of his career. It went platinum.

George Strait’s ‘Right or Wrong’ Album Gave Him No. 1 Singles

The “Right or Wrong” album was the only collaboration between George Strait and producer Ray Baker. Also, the album has some very, very beloved songs included on it. Some of these tracks even became top hits on the Hot Country Singles chart. The number one hits that came from his album included the titled track, “Right or Wrong,” as well as “You Look So Good in Love” and “Let’s Fall to Pieces Together.”

The album also led to the very first music video of George Strait’s career. The track selected for that first music video was “You Look So Good in Love.”

Speaking of that song, you can listen to Strait sing it below.

Other tracks on the “Right or Wrong” album were: “A Little Heaven’s Rubbing Off on Me”; “80 Proof Bottle of Tear Stopper”; “Every Time It Rains (Lord Don’t It Pour)”; “You’re the Cloud I’m On (When I’m High)”; “I’m Satisfied with You”; “Our Paths May Never Cross”; and “Fifteen Years Going Up (And One Night Coming Down).”

Only days ago, George Strait celebrated the anniversary of another one of his wildly popular albums. This celebration surrounded the 1993 release of “Easy Come, Easy Go.” This album dropped on Sept. 28, 1993 – almost 10 years to the day of the release of “Right or Wrong.”

And just like that album, Strait found success. In fact, the song “Easy Come, Easy Go” made it all the way to the top spot on the charts. Other songs were also successful. For example, the track “The Man in Love With You” climbed all the way to the fifth spot. Also, making it all the way to the third spot was “I’d Like to Have That One Back.”
