Country music singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert will not forget March 6 as, on this day, she notched her first gold single in “Kerosene.”
Lambert, who just announced the release of her latest album, “The Marfa Tapes,” was a long way from her fame and fortune in 2006. She’d been a contestant on “Nashville Star” and gained some recognition. But she needed a hit to really stand out from the crowd.
That happened with “Kerosene,” which is about an ex-boyfriend who did her wrong and now the woman is out to seek revenge. This song also happens to be the title track of her first album with Epic Records.
She shares writing credits with Steve Earle, whose song “I Feel Alright” has a similar sound to “Kerosene.”
Miranda Lambert Reaches No. 15 On Billboard Charts
The song landed Miranda Lambert among Grammy Award nominees. She found herself up for the Best Female Country Vocal Performance, yet Lambert didn’t win.
“Kerosene,” though, reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot Country charts, a fantastic start to the future of Miranda Lambert.
With the lyrics, Lambert is searingly ripping up the thought of love, singing, “I’m giving up on love ’cause love’s given up on me.” Take a look at some of the lyrics from Lambert’s first gold record, “Kerosene.”

Now the video for “Kerosene” lights the fire under Lambert fans. The video, since its release, has been viewed more than 63 million times in YouTube.
Lambert Comes From Texas Roots As Her Career Takes Off
Now Miranda Lambert joins a list too long for this article of country music artists who come from Texas. Lambert was born in Longview, Texas, yet grew up in the small town of Lindale.
When she was 16 years old, Lambert appeared on the Johnnie High Country Music Review, which was held in Arlington, Texas. From there, she earned her first trip to Nashville for a recording session but that didn’t turn out well. So, she went back home to Texas and started learning how to play the guitar.
That led to Lambert being able to write her own songs, put out her first album in 2001, and began her journey in earnest. “Nashville Star” led to her getting signed by Epic Records. From there, Lambert saw her career take off.
Today, though, Miranda Lambert will remember when “Kerosene” delivered her the first of many gold single records.
