Six years ago today country superstar Reba McEntire released her 27th studio album, Love Somebody.

The album features the single “Going Out Like That” which charted within the top 30 of Country Airplay. The song is about coming back to yourself and moving on after a break-up. During the song, Reba McEntire sings, “He thought she’d be sitting home crying, but she ain’t going out like that. She’s had enough of feeling like dying, she ain’t going out like that. Everybody, here comes the life of the party, yeah, she is. He might have left her brokenhearted. But she ain’t going out like that.”

The album also featured the song “Enough,” a duet with Jennifer Nettles. The song is about loving a man who can only half-love you back. During the song the two stars sing, “But in the end it’s only me, wishing I could be. Wishing I still was enough to make him wanna stay. Enough to make him walk away. I just wanna hear him say my love’s enough.”

Love Somebody debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. This was Reba McEntire’s twelfth number one album on the charts. The album also debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200.

What’s the Story Behind Reba McEntire’s ‘Going Out Like That’?

“Going Out Like That” was written by songwriters Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, and Jason Sellers. When Reba McEntire first heard a demo of the song, a man was singing the song. During an interview in 2018, Reba talked about how the song “jumped out” at her while she was choosing songs for her album.

“When you listen to thousands of songs trying to find just the right one to record, a really great song jumps out at you. That’s exactly what ‘Going Out Like That’ did to me!” said Reba. “It jumped out because it’s a great song with up-tempo sassiness!”

Reba added that when she sang the song, “Going Out Like That” took on a whole different meaning.

“The first time I heard it, a man was singing the demo,” said Reba. “When I sang it coming from a female perspective, it became a woman’s power anthem!”

Not only is the song an anthem for women everywhere, it’s also a loving nudge for anyone going through a break up.

“A party anthem and a woman’s anthem of like, I’m not gonna sit back and cry in my Post Toasties, I’m gonna get out and have a good time,” said Reba McEntire.
