Mother-daughter duo, the Judds, figured “Why Not Me’ when it came to creating chart toppers.

According to The Boot, on this day in 1984, the pair’s song “Why Not Me” landed at No.1 on the charts and stayed there for two weeks. Harlan Howard, Sonny Throckmorton and Brent Maher wrote the hit song.

The song is all about picking someone for the moments, big and small, that happen throughout life. The single can be heard on the 1998 “Greatest Hits” album and “I Will Stand by You: The Essential Collection” from 2011.

“Why not me on a rainy day? / Why not me to love your cares away? / Why not me?”

Success and the Hollywood Star

Besides being on the top of the charts, the song was also award-winning. It earned the Judds the American Country Music award and Country Music Award for Song of the Year.

During their career, Naomi and Wynonna Judd had 14 No.1 singles. The duo recently received the news that they would be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to Tennessean.

The duo’s excitement by the addition on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is clear.

“It’s interesting, all these awards we won — we were undefeated at all the award shows like the CMAs and ACMs — and we were always in a category with three or four other people we knew. Country music used to be like a big family, and we would be up against some of our friends in the categories at all of the big award shows. It’s nice, this time we don’t have to worry about that,” Naomi Judd said.

The duo had their last show on Dec. 4, 1991, right around this time 29 years ago. The show was at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

According to The Boot, the pair performed “Mama He’s Crazy,” their hit 1984 debut single. Other songs performed included “Girls Night Out,” “Love Is Alive” and also “Why Not Me.” In 1990, Naomi Judd was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, which brought her career to a firm stop.
