Loretta Lynn Opens Up About Her Friendship With Patsy Cline
During an April 2020 interview with ABC News, country singer Loretta Lynn looked back on the sweet memories she had with Patsy Cline. “We were two bad ones. If she’d still be around, we’d probably both be in the pen.”
Lynn also described Patsy Cline as someone who told her what was right and what was wrong. “She was my big sister that I never had,” Lynn stated. She then reflected on how Cline acted following a car accident in 1961. “Bless her heart. I could tell she was in a lot of pain. Her arms and her head were all bandaged up. And it broke my heart.”
The country singer noted that she supported Patsy Cline as she struggled to hide the car accident scars. It was also revealed that Cline taught Lynn how to avoid being pushed around by men in the country music business. “The men knew exactly what Patsy thought and they’d try to get away with things with me. But she’d seen them act funny. And she’d tell them off.”
Along with teaching her how to navigate through the country music industry, Patsy Cline taught Lynn how to share her legs, how to drive, and even gave Lynn dresses to wear on stage. Lynn even admitted that Cline gave her lace panties as a way to spice up her marriage. “I’ve got a pair of panties that she gave me that I wore for four years.”
Although it’s been decades since Patsy Cline tragically died in a plane crash, Lynn goes on to add that she thinks about the fellow country singer all the time.
“She’s on my mind all the time. A lot of times, not even expecting it, but I’ll be sitting and thinking and I’ll see Patsy. I know a lot of people don’t believe that, but she’s with me all the time.”
