Rascal Flatts Reveal What They Want to Be Known For Post-Retirement

What will Rascal Flatts be known for as a band? This is the question that the trio has also wondered.

Lead singer Gary LeVox spoke to Big Machine Label Group about their legacy and what he personally hopes that they will be remembered by.

“You know, I think we’d want to be remembered for ‘Broken Road,’” he said. “I think we’d want to be remembered for ‘Prayin’ for Daylight,’ and our clothes and pleather and hairdos,” LeVox laughed.

“You know, really want to be remembered for that, and the bowling video with ‘This Everyday Love’ that we did. We love The Big Lebowski. We love that movie so much that we actually shot it in the same bowling alley, on the same lanes that they shot The Big Lebowski in.  So, that’s a little insider that we’re really proud of.”

LeVox mentioned three of Rascal Flatts‘ hits in his answer. “God Bless the Broken Road” was released off of their 2004 record, Feels Like Today. The song became an instant hit for the band despite it being recorded by a few artists prior to their rendition. The song achieved Platinum status, the No. 1 spot on the country charts, and is a staple at their concerts.

“Prayin’ for Daylight” was released off of their 2000 self-titled album. The song peaked at No. 3 on the country charts and reached Gold certification.

“This Everyday Love” featured a classic 2000 music video. The video cuts between the band performing and the band competing against professional bowling teams. Fans adored the movie reference and today, the video has over 1.5 million views on YouTube.

Rascal Flatts’ Future Plans

Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney, and Jay DeMarcus will all stay in the music industry in some respect. Firstly, LeVox is pursuing a solo music career and is working on his debut solo record.

Secondly, Jon Don Rooney will be focusing on his songwriting for other artists. “Well, I think there’s no doubt that we’ll all be doing some type of something in music. Because we all just … that’s our passion, it’s what we love,” he shared. “For me, I’m just continuing songwriting and that journey. Which is just my favorite thing to do, is write songs and try to create something that might be good.  They’re few and far between sometimes writing.  But you know, that’s that one great outlet that I’ve had and I’ve really concentrated on with all this quarantine and just downtime, is trying to write something good if I can.”

Thirdly, DeMarcus will work on his own music, this time in the Christian genre. “I opened a Christian record label two years ago called Red Street Records. I’m really devoting a lot of time to that,” he said. “So, we’re not slowin’ down.”
