Country superstar Reba McEntire and royalty Dolly Parton are in equal parts stunning and talented individuals. So what do you get when you put them together on a record for their first duet ever? Chills. The two country music icons sing together on a Revised Remixed Revisted rendition of “Does He Love You,” and the vocals from Reba’s new box set are enough to tug on anyone’s heartstrings.
Reba McEntire originally released “Does He Love You” in 1993. The duet-style song featured Linda Davis singing opposite, and the pair earned themselves a Grammy Award for the collaborative effort. Today, McEntire released a three-part box set called Revised Remixed Revisted. The collection of music includes reworked versions of songs across Reba McEntire’s catalog. Naturally, “Does He Love You” made the cut. You can check out the video here.
The newest offering of the timeless song lands squarely in the “Remixed” portion of the box set. Here, the whole idea is Reba subbing in different artists on classic collaborative cuts. No one is taking anything away from the great Linda Davis, but Reba opted to include the one and only Dolly Parton on her reimagined rendition of “Does He Love You.” And who better than the “Jolene” composer herself to sing the part of the mistress on the Reba McEntire classic?
The country superstars took to Twitter, promoting the music video for their new, old song. They even had a fun exchange about their poor mutual taste in men. Well, poor taste that songs like “Fancy” and “Jolene” would lead us to believe they share, at least. Parton has famously been married to her husband Carl Dean since 1966.
Either way, the two are beyond convincing as they wonder which of them holds their man’s heart on “Does He Love You.”
Even Reba McEntire Finds It Hard to Believe That This Is Her First Duet with Longtime Friend Dolly Parton
The friendship between Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton reaches back decades. Parton has turned in countless legendary duet performances over those years, including cuts like “Islands in the Stream” with Kenny Rogers. So it’s nearly impossible for us to wrap our heads around the fact that the first duet with both Dolly and Reba McEntire just came out in 2021.
Reba interviewed with Billboard this week to promote her new box set. Fortunately, one of the first questions she was asked revolved around this very topic.
“I’m agreeing with you 100%. I’m shell shocked. How have we not done one? Every time I’d hear Dolly doing a duet with somebody else, I would get a little sad or a little jealous, like, ‘I want to do a duet with Dolly.’ Everything happens for a reason and timing is everything. So it worked out perfectly,” said McEntire.
