Since the 1970s, Reba McEntire has been bringing her sound and music to listeners around the world. How did she get her name, though? It is almost synonymous with country music at this point. Reba. No one ever asks who you are talking about when you mention that name. They just know.
This isn’t just a stage name, of course, and has real meaning and history behind it. When you think back on your own name, there might be a family story or relative that you can trace it to. The same goes for the country music legend. She spoke with Country Living about her name.
“My grandma was a very spiritual woman. Her name was Reba Smith. That’s my mama’s mama,” the country star explained, “My daddy’s mama died before my oldest sister Alice was born. Grandma Reba taught me about the love of Jesus. To me, that’s the most important thing she could’ve ever taught me.”
Named after her grandmother, Reba has honored her memory very well. Now, everyone knows the name, no last name is needed. The only thing folks need to hear before they are transported to a memory of a song, her television show, or another Reba memory.
It is so great to see Reba appreciate her name and the history behind it. Being named after a family member can be really social. That name has served the country artist well in her career. She is one of the most recognizable artists in the world. Even now in 2021, she has new projects coming out and is rocking stages.
Reba Recently Saved from Freak Building Accident
Last Tuesday the I’m A Survivor artist was involved in a terrible accident. Inside an old historic building in downtown Akota, the stairs collapsed. There were multiple people involved. Reba had to be rescued by first responders out of the building. They climbed down a ladder to the ground floor.
Reba took to social media to share that she was fine and explain the details about what happened.
“While my team and I were in Atoka, OK yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments,” she shared on Twitter.
Fans were relieved to hear that the country artist is doing well and that she was able to get out of the building okay. There were tons of fans in the replies of her post giving well-wishes and letting their feelings be known. The building is over 100 years old, and the incident was by all accounts a freak accident.
Hopefully, Reba gets to sit back and relax a bit ahead of her new project dropping on October 8th.
